Congrats and so yours is a tale of determination that does not know how to falter. Thank you for not giving up and revel in your accomplishment.
All the best!
i've just had the official results on my pgce.
i'm not posting here to boast, but to encourage any who may have abandoned education because of the pressure as a jw, and who may feel that it's too late to return and achieve such goals.
in the 1980s i stopped halfway through my b.ed honours and accepted a dip.h.e.
Congrats and so yours is a tale of determination that does not know how to falter. Thank you for not giving up and revel in your accomplishment.
All the best!
hello, first let me apologixe for both my spelling and my grammer in advance, both are not my strong points.. i'll keep this short.
since i've been a child my mother has studied on and off with jw's ( i'm now 34) so i've been around it most of my life, i studied on and off myself for around 10 years.
thank's to this site and jwfacts i'll never study or step foot inside a kingdom hall again.
You weren't harsh at all, you stated your wishes in a way that was respectful and non-intimidating. If he has any sense he'll respect your wishes and make sure not to come looking for you- but be advised, as a JW I was relentless and I woudn't quit. He might not either but you have it on paper and can use that if they bug you again.
awhile back i posted about my wife's father passing away.
despite her not attending meetings or even the memorial in quite some time, she and her father were always very close.
he understood her condition and did not fault her for not attending or not being active.
TOTH, thank you for sharing- I found this part quite disturbing: "Don't you believe in the resurrection? Don't you have faith in Jehovah? Why are you making a scene here?"
I am sorry that was the best the JW's could offer, a horrible excuse for not feeling sad and experiencing grief. When my mother's sister passed a few months ago some sisters came to her home to "comfort" her. I still remember their first words upon entering, "Don't cry just remember the resurrection." That piece of bologna nearly made me go AWOL right there, how insensitive to just throw that on people as a reason not to feel such a raw emotion. Even Jesus cried when Lazarus died and he had the power to resurrect.
My condolences to your family.
this is a letter i received today with my brother turning on me based on something that was told to him by my crazy mother.
he works for me, yet has not spoken a word to me in months because he is a self-righteous little dick.. .
what i would like to know from someone who knows the law, is it possible i can sue him if he pressures people to not work with me because of my religious beliefs????
My two cents:
Maybe I got the wrong impression but his words seem sincere and it seems he's only following a misplaced duty to stand for what he believes to be right. I have no knowledge of the law but don't see how starting a drawn out process like a suit would make things any better for you, if your ultimate hope is to have your family understand you.
This might only serve to distance them more and further strain your relationship with your brother.
was thinking about this yesterday on the 4th?
due to the practices, no voting, shunning activities, not getting involved with the community, school, etc, etc.
what do you guys think?
I don't think the JW's are anti-American but they are definitely just plain anti-government. It can be harmful to be so afraid of everything when you know that governments do offer some nice things, i.e. police, fire fighters, unemployement, medicaid etc.
so i have a friend in a congregation in new jersey who recently called me to tell me that he got a divorce.
nothing surprising there at first but it is the fact of when it happened.
his wife began pioneering april 1, and after about three weeks she came to him and told him that about 4 years she had engaged in loose conduct (fondling the penis and the guy kissing her breasts) during a time that she was inactive.
I understand that your friend feels betrayed but I would look at it as something she did before being together. As long as she didn't fool around on me once we were together then nothing should impede the "happily ever after."
It's really interesting though that he only considered the divorce until they suggested it to him and what's worse is that he is giving up on someone who might really love him. All because of the all-star elders..
yes, i too have wondered how an assembly that is held in a fully paid for assembly hall, with no food service, could possibly have $10,000 in expenses.
i suppose the bethel speakers have transportation expenses - maybe $1000 or so.
as for rent on the assembly hall, well you have already paid for it once, why pay again?
“The greed of gain has no time or limit to its capaciousness. Its one object is to produce and consume. It has pity neither for beautiful nature nor for living human beings. It is ruthlessly ready without a moment's hesitation to crush beauty and life”- Rabindranath Tagore
Love that quote and can't help but think about this thread, so many of the great promises we were made served only one purpose: to get you to fill the coffers of an already mega-rich powerhouse of a religion. Sucks huh?
it's clear that virtually everyone on here is infuriated by wt teachings/doctrines/practices, but i would really like to know what is of most concern to people who frequent this forum.. here is my top 5, number 1 being the most significant/infuriating:.
the disfellowshipping practice - expanded to include family members (but not parents) who are old enough to leave home.
wrecks families and creates abject fear once people find out the truth about the organization.the blood issue - another unmerciful teaching, but one that costs lives.unquestioned authority of governing body - a handful of men make life-altering decisions as representatives of a larger group of people who they never see or speak to, and yet they demand unquestioning obedience on pain of being disfellowshipped.failed prophecy - the fulfilment of huge swathes of bible prophecy, including revelation, has been attributed to the events of the early 20th century, and the actions of a small group of men.two-tier christianity - faithful and discreet slave are anointed who go to heaven to whom ransom provisions apply directly, whereas remainder, or "great crowd" stay on earth and form a sub-class, only access benefits of ransom through fds.i realise that many of these issues are inter-related, but that's roughly how i would put them.
cedars:
1. JC's, I don't recall the term ever in the bible and I remember from my mom's experience with one that those dudes have bad ju-ju on themselves when they supposedly judge their fellow man/woman.
2. No birthdays? Ever read the g03 22/9 22-24 that talks about piñatas- how come doesn't apply to b-days?
3. Using "new light" as an excuse for being wrong.
4. Blind obedience to everything WT and GB says even if it's ridiculous.
5. Sex abuse cover up- lurkers look up David Nelson in Phoenix and Candace Conti from Fremont, CA enough for my bubble to burst.

after reading some of your other posts and experiences, especially regarding the elder's school, i am reminded of part 2 of my experience down the rabbit hole.. the last elder's school i attended was in 2011. i remember vividly the 3 day event.
i remember vividly being bored out of my mind!.
as has been stated by others, the hours of monotone counsel and examples and experiences were continually beating on your brain with the usual stuff:.
Thanks TECH 49 for sharing, that sub-co was such a d-bag! Most of those guys are high on some theocratic power trip and classify themselves as God's gift to the congregations with the sole purpose of spotting and correcting, when they're more twisted than any of us will ever be.
just wanted to make some information available for newer ones.
i am a born-in third generation ( or is it one overlapping generation..i get so confused) and i had no idea these court transcripts even existed until almost 2 years ago.
i don't want to assume that you have read these.
So the JW's were being sued?
What came of this testimony?
Thank you for sharing- crazy stuff.
